Editing archives

Update supported archives and explicitly save external edits back.

Supported updates

ZIP, 7z, and TAR archives support updates such as adding, removing, and renaming entries. Other formats may be read-only. Keep a backup before changing an archive that contains important data.

Updates build and test a replacement archive before replacing the original. The app checks for changes to the original during this process; if another program has modified it, reopen it before trying again. A folder grant may be required to safely replace the archive.

Edit in another app

Open an entry in an external editor. ezarchive extracts a local working copy, then lets you explicitly save the edited copy back into a supported archive. Saving in the editor alone does not guarantee the archive has been updated.

Before closing the session, confirm save-back completed. If you want to keep the extracted copy independently, save it outside the temporary preview directory.

Working-copy privacy

A working copy is unencrypted even if the archive is encrypted. The external editor controls its own autosave, sync, and network behavior. See local file safety and the editor’s privacy settings.
