Privacy policy

How ezarchive handles local files, passwords, temporary copies, and website visits.

Last updated: 20 September 2026.

Scope

This policy describes how the ezarchive Mac app and ezarchive.alkinum.com handle information. You can contact the ezarchive team through the support page, including the Privacy request option.

Information handled by the app

Archive operations happen locally on your Mac. The app does not include advertising, analytics, accounts, telemetry, or a remote archive-processing service. It does not upload archive contents, filenames, passwords, or file-access bookmarks to the developer. The current application sandbox has no network entitlements.

To perform the actions you request, the app reads archive contents and metadata and writes extracted files or updated archives to the locations you select. Local processing may involve personal information inside your files.

File access and local preferences

You choose files or folders through macOS pickers or supported file drops. Local security-scoped bookmarks allow access to selected locations on later launches. Preferences and recent archive paths are saved on your Mac. File metadata supports display, change detection, and temporary-file management; operation timing supports progress and cancellation, not tracking or fingerprinting.

Use File Access or Forget Saved File Access & Recent Archives in Settings to remove saved access. Existing macOS grants may remain active until the app quits. Clearing recent records, including automatic removal of missing records if enabled, does not delete the original archive files.

Passwords

Archive passwords are held in memory while an archive is open or an operation requires them. They are not written to preferences, command-line arguments, diagnostic logging, or a developer server. Closing the archive removes the app’s reference to the password; this is not a guarantee of secure erasure from memory.

Temporary copies and retention on your Mac

Quick Look previews, drag-out exports, nested archive work, and external editing may create local copies. These preview and working copies are not encrypted by ezarchive, even when the source archive is encrypted. Attachments delivered through macOS file promises are received into the local temporary cache; normal file-URL drops open the original file.

At startup, temporary sessions with no changes for seven days are eligible for cleanup. Use Show Preview Files in Settings to inspect these files, and save important copies or edits to a permanent location before cleanup. You can remove unwanted temporary files when they are no longer in use. Ordinary deletion is not secure erasure.

Website visits

The site uses static pages with local document search and a server endpoint for support requests. It includes no analytics, advertising pixels, account system, or third-party font requests. Search queries are handled in your browser; loading pages, search indexes, and assets still makes requests to the host. A theme preference may be stored in your browser’s local storage; clearing the site’s browser data removes it.

The website uses Cloudflare Workers and Static Assets. Cloudflare may process request information such as IP addresses, requested URLs, timestamps, and browser headers to deliver and protect the site. Its handling of operational and security information is described in its privacy policy. The website does not use this information for advertising or behavioral analytics.

Support correspondence

The support form sends your email address, selected topic, subject, message, preferred language, and any optional app version, macOS version, or archive format you enter to our OnFire ticket system. We use this information to handle your request. The form does not upload archives, collect files from your Mac, or automatically send device diagnostics. Your customer session credentials are kept on the server; entering an email address does not grant access to previous tickets.

The support page loads Cloudflare Turnstile to protect the form from abuse. Cloudflare may process network and browser information for this check under its privacy policy. The server also limits submission attempts by IP address. Visiting other pages does not load Turnstile.

Support messages and follow-up correspondence are stored in OnFire to handle and follow up on your request. Records may remain after a ticket is closed. To ask about or request removal of information you provided, choose Privacy request on the support page. Do not include passwords, private archive contents, or other sensitive information in a support report.

Apple and other applications

Apple handles store distribution, purchases, refunds, and any separately enabled diagnostics under its own terms and privacy policy. ezarchive does not receive or store payment card details. If you choose to share beta feedback or diagnostic reports through Apple, Apple may make those reports available to the developer to investigate problems and improve the app.

External editors, cloud-synced folders, and apps that receive files operate under their own privacy practices. Choosing a synced destination can cause another service to upload a local copy.

Your choices and rights

You can choose which files to open, decline folder access, forget saved locations, clear recent records, manage temporary files, and stop using the app. Support is optional. You can use the Privacy request option to ask about access, correction, or deletion of information you submitted. Depending on applicable law, you may also have rights to restrict or object to processing, receive a portable copy, withdraw consent where consent is used, or complain to a competent authority.

Changes and contact

When the app or website’s information practices change, we update this page and its revision date. For privacy questions or support, use the support page. The in-app Help → Privacy & Open-Source Licenses notice describes the shipped build’s local processing.
